Students Career Coaching Programs
Does your son/daughter see a world of opportunities or a wealth of confusing choices?
Career coach Dave Cordle shared his insights in one of his articles, reflecting on his experience of assisting adults in career development and change throughout the years. He often hears a recurring sentiment: “I wish I had been aware of this when I was younger.”
Many parents invest in tutorial and revision courses for their children. Neglecting one single most important thing that young people need for life; direction, confidence, and the ability to present themselves professionally and persuasively. Without these skills, even the very highest grades won’t necessarily lead to success.
“Here are five advantages of career coaching for teenagers and young adults:”
Self-Discovery
Self-discovery is the process of gaining insight and understanding about oneself. It involves exploring one’s own beliefs, values, preferences, strengths, weaknesses, and motivations. This process often leads to a deeper understanding of personal identity and purpose in life.
It involves becoming more aware of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and examining the factors that influence your choices and actions.
Many individuals lack self-awareness and often rush into decisions about their future/what they want to be without truly understanding themselves. Our programs are designed to guide students through an extensive journey of self-discovery.
It involves a range of psychometric assessments to unveil their personality traits, abilities, behavioral styles, and aptitudes. These assessments encompass personality career assessments, interest-based career assessments, values-driven career assessments, and skills-oriented career assessments.
The ultimate goal is to ensure that their career choices align with their life purposes, rooted in their unique strengths and motivations. By helping young people identify their deeper motivations and values, which underpin their genuine intentions, they gain the clarity needed to confidently explore tangible career options for their future.
Self Confidence
Self-confidence is a belief in one’s abilities, qualities, and judgment. It is the assurance and faith in your own capability to meet life’s challenges and to pursue your goals. Self-confidence is a crucial aspect of mental and emotional well-being, influencing how individuals think, feel, and act in various situations.
Through this journey of self-discovery, the students gain a profound understanding of their individuality, learning to value their distinct abilities, skills, talents, values, and passions. As a result, their self-confidence flourishes, and they come to appreciate their self-worth.
This newfound confidence empowers them to communicate their career aspirations, strengths, and passions with unwavering certainty. They start prioritizing their motivations and values over fleeting thoughts and begin to recognize their own worthiness in pursuing what they genuinely seek, require, and desire for a successful future.
Ownership of their career choices
In today’s society, young people often lack the opportunity to truly take charge of their career decisions. Many individuals don’t make these choices through rational deliberation but instead are influenced by deep-seated unconscious biases stemming from their social environment, parents, peers, and educators. They are also impacted by societal norms related to factors such as gender, religion, race, and tribal affiliations. Additionally, there is excessive emphasis placed on standardized examinations as the primary measure of their abilities.
In our career coaching programs, we aim to encourage our students to gradually assume responsibility for their career choices and paths, with minimal or no external intervention from parents and educators.
Strength based career choices
Rather than basing their career choices on the unconscious biases mentioned earlier, the journey of self-discovery empowers students to select career paths that are in harmony with their strengths. Often, this leads to a commitment to these careers, helping them avoid the loss of time and resources that can result from making the wrong career decision.
We’ve observed that many individuals with MBAs return to school because they are dissatisfied with their initial post-college jobs. They seek a socially acceptable means of hitting the reset button.
As an article on Thrive Global aptly states, “There is nothing more disheartening than struggling through an academic course in which you have little to no interest and can’t perceive its value, or feeling trapped in a work role that fails to excite you with no apparent escape route.”
Coaching is a very powerful tool for students
“Everyone needs a coach,” are the opening words of Bill Gates in his Ted Talk addressing the significance of mentoring and coaching. We firmly assert that coaching is an incredibly potent tool. It grants students the opportunity to make pivotal decisions about their future with minimal external influence from parents or teachers.
The role of a coach is multifaceted and diverse, encompassing purposes such as self- discovery and confidence cultivation. However, it’s crucial to clarify that our programs does not dictate to our clients what they should do. Instead, it facilitates an exploration of what is right for them. Through a journey of self-discovery, we pose profound questions, encourage them to delve into their responses, and offer feedback and perspective within a secure and nurturing environment.
