Weekly Motivation by Ms. Achieng Perez
We all have a Purpose, we exist on earth for a Purpose, I believe in Purpose. I know the word “Purpose Driven Life,” has become a common cliché in the recent times. People give little if no attention at all to this subject. I come today to tell you that I believe in Purpose.
Everything existing in the universe exist for a purpose, think of it, the stars in the sky, the birds in the air, the fish in the seas, the wild animals, domestic animals, trees, mountains, rivers, don’t they exist for a purpose? Can you find out?
If all the creation existed to fulfill a purpose, the question is, why is the most important, peculiar, special creation constantly debating the subject of ‘purpose’? Why can’t we give thought to this subject? All the other creation know why they exist and thus they fulfill their purposes in their natural habitats. Birds fly in the sky, fish swim in the seas, wild animals co-exist in the wild. They know why they exist and hence fulfil their purpose.
One question we must all battle with and dare to find an answer to is “Why am I here?” Purpose. In the words of the late Dr. Miles Munroe, “The greatest tragedy in life is life without purpose.” Not knowing why, we exist. Were we born to grow, go to school, find a job, marry, get children, pay bills, survive life, and wait for old age and eventually death? I believe most if not all will say NO.
I want to say that we were all born with a gift/purpose for the world. This gift was meant to bring solutions to the issues that have plagued humanity over centuries. This gift, your work, is what you were born to do, no one can take it from you. It is what you get fulfilment in because you love it. You cannot retire from it. When a person discovers their work, they no longer will need a job. Why, because their work is their purpose while their job is something they are trained to do, to be compensated for.
In our work/purpose, we become a people of value, we become valuable to the world and the world pays us for our value/purpose/work/gift. We do not only seek to gain skills on different fields in order to get a job, but we seek to sharpen our inborn skills, abilities, gifts, talents to fulfil our purpose.
I charge you to discover your gift/purpose, refine them, develop them, practice them, and then begin to serve them freely to the world/your community.
The story of Colonel Sanders-KFC (There are many versions of this story online, you can search for it). Colonel Sanders as stated in one of the articles was a jack of all trades most of his life, “The Colonel had quite a colorful resume. From starting a ferryboat company to being a secretary at the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, he was also an insurance, lighting and tire salesman apart from being an obstetrician as well as a lawyer.”
Inside Colonel Sanders, despite being a jack of all trades, laid a lifelong purpose/gift, “Kenturky Fried Chicken.” A venture he paid attention to at the age of 40, having tried his hands on so many other ventures, yet chicken making was a talent inborn in him.
At age 90 when Colonel Sanders passed away in 1980, there were around 6,000 KFC locations in 48 countries. By 2013, there were an estimated 18,000 KFC locations in 118 countries. As stated in an article on Colonel Sanders, “The colorful, almost fictional character that we’ve come to love and appreciate for his finger lickin’ good chicken was really just a young boy who cooked, dared to dream big and led an extraordinary life.”
I leave you with this question, what is your work/gift/purpose in life? Like Colonel Sanders, would you dare to find your purpose in life? For I believe in Purpose.
